SPECIALIST STROKE

rehabilitation

We recognise the challenges faced by stroke survivors and their families, as well as the importance of tailored rehabilitation. You have the option to select individual sessions with a specialist neuro physiotherapist or choose comprehensive stroke rehabilitation with the support of our multidisciplinary team.

Neuro physiotherapy focuses on improving neurological function, mobility, and quality of life by addressing stroke effects on the brain and nervous system. Our goal is to aid neuroplasticity and enhance functional recovery.

The national stroke guidelines recommend a minimum of 45 minutes of tailored therapy, 5 days a week, across physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy to support recovery and improve quality of life.

Early intervention

Starting neuro physiotherapy as soon as possible can boost recovery by leveraging the brain’s ability to adapt and reorganise.

Functional training

Our therapy includes practical training to help you regain the ability to perform daily tasks, such as walking, balancing, and coordinating movements.

Neuroplastic stimulation

We use methods to encourage the brain to form new connections and pathways, aiding in the recovery of lost functions.

Personalised exercise programs

We create tailored exercise plans to improve motor skills, strength, and coordination, addressing each individual’s specific needs and goals.

Manual therapy

Techniques like joint mobilisations and muscle stretching are used to enhance range of motion and reduce muscle stiffness.

Assistive devices

We integrate assistive devices and technologies, such as walking aids and specialised equipment, to support mobility and daily activities.

REHAB PROGRAMMES

MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH

We offer tailored support designed to meet your individual needs. Our team creates and manages weekly therapy schedules customised to your goals, ensuring a personalised approach to your rehabilitation journey. As recommended by research and national guidelines, our multidisciplinary team addresses the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social aspects of recovery.

Physiotherapist

Physiotherapy plays a crucial role in the rehabilitation of individuals recovering from a stroke. It focuses on helping patients regain movement, strength, and coordination affected by the stroke. Physiotherapists use targeted exercises, balance training, and mobility techniques to improve function and independence. They also educate patients and their families on managing challenges and preventing future strokes. The overall goal is to enhance quality of life and support a successful return to daily activities.

Occupational therapist

Occupational therapists (OTs) work in various areas to help people regain or improve their ability to perform daily activities. There are several types of OTs, each specialising in different aspects of care. These include rehabilitation, mental health, paediatric, older adults, neurological, hand therapy and vocational rehabilitation OTs.

psychologist

Our team includes both clinical psychologists, who address a wide range of emotional and psychological issues, and neuropsychologists, who specialise in understanding the relationship between brain function and behaviour, particularly in the context of neurological conditions.

Music therapists

Music Therapists use music as a therapeutic tool to support emotional, cognitive, and physical rehabilitation. As an integral part of the rehab team at Rehab Physio London, music therapists collaborate with various disciplines to enhance recovery.

Rehab dieticians

Rehab dietitians work closely with the rest of the team, to ensure that your nutritional requirements for rehabilitation are met. They assess individual needs and create tailored meal plans that support recovery and overall health. This collaborative approach helps to optimise your rehabilitation journey and promotes holistic well-being.

Speech and Language therapists

Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) play an integral role in the multidisciplinary team, assisting individuals with communication and swallowing difficulties, which are often essential in neurological rehabilitation.

Supporting evidence

Improved functional support
Research has shown that early, coordinated rehabilitation across multiple therapies significantly improves mobility and daily living skills. A 2020 study highlighted that combining physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy can accelerate recovery for people who have had a stroke.

Person-centered care
We tailor each rehabilitation plan to your individual needs and goals. Whether it’s overcoming physical challenges or addressing emotional concerns, your input and preferences are central to designing a programme that works for you and your family.

Community based rehabilitation
Recent studies, including a 2021 report in The Lancet, have found that community-based rehabilitation can reduce hospital readmissions and help people regain their independence. Our team works with you in your home or local community settings, helping you reintegrate into daily life while continuing your recovery.

Mental health support
Emotional wellbeing is key to a successful recovery. Our holistic approach includes psychological support, such as cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), to help manage post-stroke depression and anxiety—both common but treatable conditions.
