FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is community physiotherapy?
Community physiotherapy involves providing physiotherapy services in a local setting, such as your home, community centers, or local clinics. It focuses on helping individuals recover, maintain, or improve physical function and mobility within their everyday environments.
Who can benefit from community physiotherapy?
Community physiotherapy is beneficial for people of all ages, including those recovering from surgery, living with chronic conditions, experiencing mobility issues, or requiring rehabilitation after an injury or illness.
What do you mean by therapy specialists?

Specialisation is KEY to successful therapy input and results in therapy.

We say NO to ‘Jack of all trades therapists’.

Our therapists works within their specialty area. This means that they focus on a specific branch of their profession, developing deep expertise in treating certain types of conditions. Just like in law or medicine, where professionals might specialise in areas like criminal law or cardiology, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and other therapy professionals often specialise in particular fields.

For example, a physiotherapist might specialise in neurological conditions, focusing on patients with diagnoses like stroke or multiple sclerosis. Similarly, a respiratory physiotherapist is an expert in managing conditions such as COPD, while a neuropsychologist specialises in treating individuals with neurological disorders affecting cognition and behaviour.

One of the main reasons we started our business was because we saw that the therapy available in the community was often too broad, lacking the necessary specialisation. Many companies would take referrals and distribute them to any available therapist, regardless of whether that therapist had the right expertise for the specific condition.

We don’t agree with the ‘jack of all trades’ approach to therapy, which has unfortunately led to community therapists gaining a poor reputation in some cases. At Rehab Physio London, we carefully screen every referral and match you with the therapist or team that has the right expertise for your needs. If we don’t believe we’re the best fit, we’ll do our best to direct you to someone who is better suited to help you. Navigating private healthcare can be overwhelming and costly, we want to support people to make the best choices in terms of their healthcare provision so they make meaningful gains

What other therapies are available?
At Rehab Physio London, we initially started as a team of three physiotherapists, but we quickly realised that to provide the streamlined, coordinated service we envisioned, it was essential to bring other therapy disciplines in-house. This approach ensures optimal coordination and patient care by having a fully integrated team under one roof, rather than relying on multiple agencies.

To achieve this, we expanded our team to include a diverse range of highly skilled professionals, allowing us to offer comprehensive, multidisciplinary rehabilitation to our clients. In addition to our large team of senior specialist physiotherapists, we also have the following professionals as part of our team. In our team we have:

  • Rehab Dietitians: They provide expert nutritional guidance tailored to support recovery and overall health.
  • Occupational Therapists: They help patients regain independence in daily activities by focusing on practical skills and environmental adaptations.
  • Psychologists: They offer support for mental health and emotional well-being, essential for a holistic recovery process.
  • Speech and Language Therapists: They assist with communication and swallowing difficulties, which can be critical in neurological rehabilitation.
  • Music Therapists: They use music as a therapeutic tool to support emotional, cognitive, and physical rehabilitation.
  • Clinical Exercise Trainers: They specialise in designing and implementing exercise programmes tailored to individual rehabilitation needs.

This multidisciplinary approach allows us to provide a more cohesive and effective rehabilitation experience, ensuring that every aspect of a patient’s recovery is addressed by the right specialist.

What is multi-disciplinary rehabilitation?
Rehab Physio London specialises in private multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams. This approach involves a team of healthcare professionals from various specialties collaborating to meet the diverse needs of a patient. The team may include physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists, dieticians and music therapists.

Each specialist contributes their expertise to develop a tailored rehabilitation plan addressing the physical, emotional, and cognitive aspects of recovery. The goal is to provide holistic care, ensuring all aspects of a patient’s health are considered, leading to a more effective recovery process.

How long do your therapy sessions last?
Our therapy sessions last a minimum of 60 minutes. Depending on a person’s programme and goals, sessions can extend to several hours. For individuals who experience mental or physical fatigue, we can arrange longer sessions with a break in the middle to ensure they receive the necessary care without becoming overwhelmed. This flexibility allows us to tailor each session to the specific needs and endurance levels of our clients, ensuring they get the most out of their therapy.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions required varies based on your condition, goals, and progress. Your therapist will provide an estimated treatment plan during your initial assessment.
Is community physiotherapy covered by insurance?
By some insurers, it is provider and policy-dependent. Many insurance providers cover community physiotherapy services, but coverage varies. We recommend checking with your insurance provider to confirm what is included in your policy.
What areas do you cover?
All of London and more.

We serve a wide range of locations within the community. For home visits, we cover all of London within the M25 and some areas outside. Please contact us to confirm whether we cover your specific area. Our rehab clinic locations are in Marylebone, Liverpool Street, and Soho.

Hydrotherapy sessions are conducted at Devonshire Place in central London or in Ealing, West London. We also have a few other sites around London where we carry out hydrotherapy on an ad-hoc basis.

How do I book an appointment?

Contact our team via phone or using the enquiry form on the website.

Our office team is experienced in rehabilitation and provide everyone with a phone assessment/screen and at the end of this we will provide you with our recommendations as to what therapy setup might meet your requirements best. When this is completed, we’ll assign your specialist therapist with the expertise that can meet your individual needs and book the appointment in. If we cannot meet your needs, we will do our best to signpost you to the best place for you.

How can I pay for my appointment?
You can pay for your appointment over the phone or online from your invoice both via Stripe. We are a cashless service.
What can I expect from my first appointment?
Your therapist will have a full handover from the team in the office. On your initial assessment, your therapist will carryout the assessment and create any outcome measures, that will allow us to track and monitor your progress
What skill level are your therapists?
Senior and highly specialised.

All of our therapists are thoroughly interviewed and vetted to ensure they meet our high standards of care. Each therapist holds HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) registration and is fully insured, either through their professional body or a recognised insurance provider. This rigorous selection process guarantees that our clients receive the highest quality of care from experienced and qualified professionals.

Do you travel abroad?
Yes.

We have travelled all over the world with our clients to deliver rehabilitation programmes. This service allows our clients to return to work, travel, and holiday with family and friends while continuing to work on their rehabilitation goals. By providing therapy in various locations, we ensure that progress isn’t interrupted, allowing clients to maintain their routines and enjoy life experiences while receiving the care they need.

Is it difficult for me to transition from NHS therapy?
Not at all.

We are happy to work closely with your NHS team to ensure a smooth and safe transition back home. Our role often involves bridging the gap between hospital and home, providing continuity of care until the NHS team can take over. If needed, we can either continue to work alongside them or resume our services once their involvement ends. We are fully committed to collaborating with statutory health services to provide the best possible care.

Additionally, our team members frequently refer clients back to the NHS for specific services when requested. This approach helps to keep your costs down while ensuring you receive the most appropriate care for long-term follow.

Do I need a referral to see a physiotherapist?

No.

You don’t need a referral to see one of our therapists—you can refer yourself directly. When we carryout an initial screen/assessment, in some cases, we may ask for your consent to contact your GP or a member of your current therapy team. This is to ensure we have all the necessary information to provide the best possible care. We would only ever reach out with your informed consent, ensuring your privacy is respected.

What should I wear to a physiotherapy appointment?

For active sessions like physiotherapy and occupational therapy at home, wear something comfortable but not too baggy, so you can move easily during rehab exercises.

For clinic and gym sessions, gym wear is ideal. If your appointment involves hands-on treatment, consider bringing a vest top or shorts for easy access.

For hydrotherapy, swimwear is required.

For speech and language therapy, dietetics, or psychology sessions, simply wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable.
