SERVICES

FES & ORTHOTICS

Available at our clinic in Marylebone, London, or in the comfort of your own home, our private community orthotics and Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) service offers tailored support for your rehabilitation needs.

What ARE ORTHOTICS and FES?

In neuro-rehabilitation, an orthotic is a custom-made or pre-fabricated device designed to support, align, or improve the function of a limb or body part. Orthotics address issues such as muscle weakness, spasticity, and joint instability, providing external support that enhances mobility, reduces pain, and improves balance and posture. Common examples include ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs).

Conditions treated with orthotics

  • Stroke: Helps with foot drop, muscle weakness, and spasticity.
  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS): Supports weakened limbs and improves gait.
  • Cerebral Palsy: Manages muscle tightness and spasticity.
  • Spinal Cord Injury: Assists with walking and posture.
  • Parkinson’s Disease: Improves stability and reduces fall risk.
  • Traumatic Brain Injury: Supports muscle control and balance.
  • Peripheral Neuropathy: Aids with foot drop and balance issues.

These devices promote stability and independence by addressing mobility challenges and reducing the risk of falls.

WHAT IS

Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) for drop foot

FES is a technique that helps individuals with foot drop by delivering electrical impulses to stimulate the muscles that lift the foot. It can be used for those with damage to their brain or spinal cord, but is not suitable for individuals with peripheral neuropathies. The L100 foot drop stimulator is designed to enhance gait and mobility. We can assess and prescribe this device in our clinic, tailoring the solution to your needs.

WHAT ARE

Orthotic and FES ASSESSMENTS

Assessments are conducted by a specialist physiotherapist at our Marylebone clinic or in your home (depending on location). During the assessment, we evaluate your range of motion, strength, spasticity, and overall function, discussing the best orthotic or FES options aligned with your rehabilitation goals.

Following the assessment, you’ll receive a detailed report with findings and recommendations. We can fit prescribed devices in a follow-up session or refer you to an orthotist for custom solutions. Our team provides full guidance and support to ensure you benefit from your orthotic or stimulation device, promoting effective rehabilitation and recovery.
